Hello, I’m Joy Diaz—an award-winning journalist, radio producer, public speaker, educator, and bilingual storyteller with a deep love for people and community. For over two decades, I’ve made my voice a catalyst for change, connect, and inspire—on air, on stage, and in every conversation that matters.

I graduated with a degree in Journalism from Universidad de Cuautitlán Izcalli in Mexico City. After moving to the United States, I also earned a degree in Education from Lynchburg College. In 2005 I joined Austin’s NPR station, KUT, where I covered education, healthcare, immigration, and politics with a local-to-global perspective. My work often brought to light the stories of underrepresented communities and it was recognized with Texas AP Broadcasters Awards and Edward R. Murrow Awards.

I speak both English and Spanish fluently, which has been a gift in a state as diverse as Texas. Being bilingual has allowed me to weave a stronger and richer tapestry of relationships from communities of faith to the world of education and journalism. It has also helped me build bridges between these communities.

My work is intentional and purposeful. It is also visionary. That’s why I say I’m an agent of change.

I am drawn to projects others haven’t tried before. And I commit to their success. But I don’t work alone. Team-building is invaluable.

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of education, community, and love. It may seem naïve but there is power in each of those; and when combined, they are unstoppable forces.

Beyond work, I love reading, creating art, and spending time in spaces where real, meaningful bonds happen. The world can be a bleak and challenging place, so I am committed to bringing JOY wherever I go. It’s a pleasure meeting YOU.
